“Capital of Ceylon Tea” Got A Tea Board Office

Ceylon Tea coming from the resplendent island nation Sri Lanka is recognized as one of the finest tasting teas in the world thanks to her well balanced tasting profile (Depth, flavor and strength). As we all know, Colombo is the commercial capital in Sri Lanka. Nuwara-Eliya is also a main Sri Lankan city surrounded by many lush green tea plantations. The city is located 1868 meters above mean sea level. So this wonderful city is recognized as “The Capital of Ceylon Tea”. Nuwara Eliya traditionally dubbed as “Little England” due to her British atmosphere during the golden old days has always been popular as the “ Capital of Ceylon Tea” for the world renowned Ceylon Tea. On 08th of March 2019, I first reported on upcoming Tea Board office in Nuwara-Eliya.

As Sri Lanka Tea Board had reported, This regional office was ceremonially inaugurated on 27th May 2019 at No. 10, Nanu-Oya Road, Kelegala, Nuwara Eliya. by Hon. Naveen Dissanayake, Minister of Plantation Industry. Mr.J.A.Ranjith secretary to Ministry of Plantation Industry and Mr.Lucil Wijewardena – Chairman Sri Lanka Tea Board were the guests of honour along with the Board of Directors. The Stake holders of the tea industry and Director General Mr.Anura Siriwardena, Senior management as well as the staff member of the Tea Board participated the great event.

This is the very first time that Sri Lanka Tea Board created a concept of a “One –stop-shop” location where a regional office to handle the regulatory work, development activities and the establishment of a sales centre to promote retail packs of Tea Board & the private sector. So “Ceylon Tea Capital” has really been blessed with a Tea Board Office, hasn’t it ?
