Ceylon Tea Shined @ FOODEX Japan

Ceylon Tea coming from the resplendent island nation, Sri Lanka is recognized for her well balanced tasting profile by tea connoisseurs all over the globe. Sri Lanka Tea Board (http://www.pureceylontea.com/ ) is the government body which is responsible for international promotion of Pure Ceylon Tea. This reputed government body participated Foodex Japan 2019 held from 28th February to 09th March. Sri Lanka Group Pavilion consisted of 12 booths.

FOODEX JAPAN (https://www.jma.or.jp/foodex/en/)is the Asia’s largest exhibition dedicated on food and drink across Japan and the whole world.

His Excellency. Prof. Dammika Ganganath Disanayake, Ambassador and Mr. Samantha  Wijesekara, Minister (Commercial) of Sri Lanka Embassy in Tokyo, Japan visited Ceylon Tea area.

At the final day of the Foodex Exhibition, Sri Lanka Tea Board organized a very successful Ceylon Tea Workshop for Ceylon tea buyers in Japan  with the assistance of Sri Lanka Embassy in Tokyo, Japan.

a. According to a claim made by the International Standard Organization (ISO), This special tea is the Cleanest Tea origin in the world considering pesticide residues. Sri Lankan authorities have imposed strict regulations on agro-chemical usage in order to meet Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) of European Union (EU) and Japan.

b. United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) has also recognized Sri Lankan Tea as the First Ozone friendly / Ethical Tea Origin in the world. View more details on Ozone Friendly story via URL:

c. Even though Sri Lanka is a small Island which is also know as “The Pearl of Indian Ocean”, “Asia’s Sweet Heart” and “The Wonder of Asia”, the diversity (Regional difference) of Ceylon Tea is quite amazing. One would enjoy a light, fragrant Nuwara-Eliya Tea from the highest mountain peak with Citrus notes while another is enjoying a strong, full bodied Ruhuna Tea from Ruhuna region situated in the down south. More details on regional diversity will be discussed desperately.

d. Sensory-wise, Ceylon Tea has got a well-balanced taste with ideal strength, flavor and aroma for a perfect cup of tea.


e. Although hand shears and mechanical tea harvesters are used pluck at very few tea fields, Sri Lankan tea is plucked exclusively by human hand.
