Mum Drank 40 Cups of Tea Per Day Buried In A Typhoo Coffin
Tea is a way of life in UK. Following Portuguese princess Catherine’s introduction of tea in 1660 AD, this wonderful beverage eventually became the nation’s favorite beverage. Ultimately, tea had the honour of being the national beverage in England. With no doubt, tea provided the refreshment, stimulation, relaxation and good health for Brits to build up a massive empire. But this story I am going to share with you now is unbelievable !. As METRO UK had reported, A mum (73 years old) loved drinking tea so much she arranged for her final send-off to be in a coffin decorated like a box of teabags.
This mum, Tina Watson gave her daughter the unusual instructions before she passed away, she blurted out: ‘I want to be buried in a coffin that looks like a giant box of tea bags.’ Her last wish was granted at the ceremony on 1st of November (Last Friday), when guests watched the hearse arrive with a bright red coffin in the back, emblazoned with the words ‘Typhoo: Great British Tea since 1903’. Daughter Debs Donovan said: ‘It’s typical of mum. She had a wicked sense of humour and drank about 30 or 40 cups of tea a day, every day. ‘She just loved having a cuppa.’
Debs, of Braunstone Town, Leicestershire, added: ‘We got chatting about her coffin after the funeral of my stepdad Peter four years ago. ‘I burst out laughing and said: ‘Okay, but it’s got to be Typhoo because you only get an ‘oo’ with Typhoo.’ ‘Mum cracked up at that and we just fell about laughing. She said she was deadly serious about the coffin so that was that.’
Tina died from a heart failure. Debs said her mum was always cheerful despite going through health worries like beating cancer twice and having both legs amputated. ‘She lost one leg after the bite got infected after being bitten by an insect in Spain 14 years ago,’ she said. ‘Mum then lost the other leg when the infection spread further.
She never let anything get her down. She always saw the funny side of things even when there wasn’t a funny side.’ The service was held on Friday at Gilroes Crematorium in Leicester. Debs said: ‘I just know mum would be looking down and laughing like a drain at her coffin. ‘I’ll go home later and put the kettle on and raise a cup to mum.’

Scientists recommend maximum 6 cups of tea per day considering the amount of Alkaloids (Caffeine) available in the brew. You can calculate your own recommended caffeine intake by multiplying your body weight by 3mg. For instance, if your body weight is 75Kg, your recommended daily caffeine intake is 75 x 3mg = 225mg. A regular cup of tea contains about 50mg of caffeine. But this depends on size of tea leaves, brewing time etc. In my personal opinion, both Black and Green teas contain almost the same amount of Alkaloids. Matcha Green Tea brew contains the highest amount of caffeine. Due to it’s fine powdered nature, maximum chemical matters are extracted. Therefore, it’s recommended to to have 1 cup of Matcha per day, ideally 6 hours before going to bed.
But this mum have had few times more cups of tea than the recommended intake. It’s an exception. Yes, sometimes science won’t be 100% true.
May Her Good Self’s Great Soul Rest in Peace !
