QTrade Teas & Herbs Founder To Receive ‘The John Harney Lifetime Achievement Award’: Another Proud Sri Lankan

It’s in deed a challenge for a person from a tea producing nation to emerge and develop a well reputed tea brand in a Coffee dominating market like in USA. The Legend at his 69, Mr. Manik Jayakumar, who is the founder of well reputed QTrade Teas and Herbs is a one who has won this challenge. As World Tea News had reported Mr. Jayakumar will receive The John Harney Lifetime Achievement Award at World Tea Expo, to be held June 11-13 (with a pre-conference program on June 10) at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev.

According to World Tea News , As the 2019 John Harney Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Jayakumar will be recognized for his significant support of the tea industry’s growth, innovation and education. Manik Jayakumar was born in Sri Lanka where finest quality Ceylon Teas are grown. His father is a physician, and he has got six brothers. His parents arranged for him to attend a fine public school that afforded men of color a better footing in a society about to be viciously torn. He graduated back in 1963 and then played Club Rugby & Internationals for a decade after passing out from school including matches with the world famous All Blacks (New Zealand) and London Welsh rugby teams.

As Dan Bolton had reported, He was appointed coordinating officer in charge of the plantation district of Nuwraeliya by the President of Sri Lanka and held this position until he migrated in 1989.

Jayakumar said, “I am very appreciative of the great honor that receiving The John Harney Lifetime Achievement Award signifies. This most unexpected recognition of the small part I have played while working in the industry that I love is beyond anything I have ever sought. To be included now in the august group of recipients of this award is very humbling. I am thankful for the specialty tea community that has nurtured us for the past 25 years, and I am lucky to be surrounded by dedicated colleagues at QTrade, and long standing clients and vendors, whose passion and commitment has made this industry a pleasure to work in.”

So it really worth for young tea entrepreneurs to follow Mr. Jayakumar as a role model, isn’t it ? I am not sure how many Sri Lakans are aware of his wonderful achievement. But with no doubt Mr. Jayakumar has become an unsung hero for Sri Lanka.
