‘The Sound of Tea’ Performance to Tour UK
Since it’s discovery by the Chinese emperor Shen Nong way back in 2732 BC, tea drink was refreshing the man kind for generations. This 5000 year old drink eventually became the most popular beverage in the world after water due to her special functional and health benefits. Tea is also the national beverage in UK. Following the introduction of tea by Portuguese princess Catherine in 1662 A.D, Brits slowly developed their love affair with this wonderful beverage. By the way music is a global language which calms the mid down, just like the way L-theanine present in tea relaxes our body and soul.
As Tea & Coffee Trade Journal had reported, Yorkshire-based arts organisation Manasamitra is taking its latest innovative project on tour this spring, called The Sound of Tea, which is described as a multi-sensory celebration of tea tradition through the ages. The Sound of Tea incorporates musical performance and digital technology and aims to create a unique performance each time.
Starting Date: 12 March 2020.
Venue: London’s King’s Place
The show will then tour the UK, incorporating live music mixes with lighting and soundscapes, participatory tea rituals and cutting-edge digital technology, which is utilized to capture and reflect audience responses in real-time.
Creator and musician Supriya Nagarajan uses her experience of synesthesia to explore the interplay between sound, sight, smell, taste, and touch. The Sound of Tea will also feature a number of interactive touch-screen electro-tables, developed by Professor Mick Grierson from the University of Arts London (UAL). This technology will let the audience to influence the performance, meaning that each show will be bespoke to every different venue and audience.
The Manasamitra team will also be working alongside tea consultant Beverley Wainwright and actress and cultural educator Fenfen Huang, who will take on the role of master of ceremonies for the project.
Supriya will take centre stage for The Sound of Tea, alongside James Cave on cello, Karin de Fleyt on the flute, Adrian Sadr on the daf, Fenfen Huang as MC as well as Duncan Chapman managing the soundscape and electro-tables
