Tea is a way of life in Great Britain. Following the introduction of tea by Portuguese princess Catherine in 1660 AD, Brits slowly developed their love affair with this wonderful, calming, stimulating and refreshing beverage. Eventually tea became the national beverage of this island nation. British tea brands like Twinings, PG Tips, Tetley, Yorkshire Tea etc have been serving fairly good teas to Brits for generations. Typhoo Tea is also one of reputed British tea brands operating since 1903. They have announced their new appointment of the Chief Executive Officer Mr. Des Kingsley who will bring with him experience of working in seafood, meat and Cadbury Desserts.

As Business Live had reported, Mr. Kingsley has taken on the role from Somnath Saha, who Typhoo says stepped down in August 2018 after a tough trading period. The new appointment is effective as of last month, with Mr Kingsley having served as a CEO and MD for almost 2 decades. Mr Kingsley has moved from Thanet Earth which is the UK’s largest single hi-tech glasshouse growing facility based in Kent, with his other experience including in ready meals, sandwiches and fresh produce.

Karan Paul, chairman of Typhoo Tea, said “The Board of Directors are confident he can drive the business forward and unlock new opportunities for the future whilst focusing on delivering operational excellence”.

Paul added further “His experience in global sourcing and establishing new supply chains across Europe, North Africa, the Americas and Asia will also bring a new strategic approach to driving supply chain synergies across International markets. We look forward to seeing where this leadership turnaround will take us next.”

Mr. Kingsley has also acted as chairman of the UK’s £6.5bn Chilled Food Association, which helps promote technical standards, innovation and food science education in the manufacturing industry.
