US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Warns Company That is Advertising COVID-19 Curing Tea
Even though USA is a coffee drinking nation, there were legends like Late Steven Smith, the founder of Tazo tea company, co-founder of Stash Tea Company and Late David Walker, the founder of Walker Tea LLC who foresaw the trend for specialty tea in the US. Tea became a popular beverage in USA thanks to their effort. There is nothing better than a freshly brewed pot of tea made with loose leaf tea. But tea concentrates can’t be considered as a healthy option. As Food Safety News had reported, US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has sent warning letter to company that is advertising COVID-19 curing tea.
FDA usually sends warning letters to companies under their jurisdiction. Some letters are not revealed to public until weeks or months after they are sent. Business owners have 15 days to respond FDA. Warning letters are often not issued until an entity has been given months to years to correct issues. This regulatory body frequently redacts parts of warning letters posted for public view.
FDA has reviewed the website of Coco’s Holistic Specialties on November 19th, 2020, and December 17, 2020, respectively. US Food & Drug Administration also reviewed social media websites where the company direct consumers to the website to buy products. The Authority has observed that the company offers 4-Thieves Florida Tea Concentrate and 4-Thieves Florida Tea Powder for sale in the United States and that this product is intended to mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose, or cure COVID-19 in people. Based on the review, these products are unapproved new drugs sold in violation of section 505(a) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act), 21 U.S.C. § 355(a). Furthermore, this product is a misbranded drug under section 502 of the FD&C Act, 21 U.S.C. § 352.

Here, my intention is not to insult this company. Business owners should be mindful not to make any direct claims like “It cures”, “It minimizes” etc. Instead, they can use terms like, “known to”, “It may” etc. But even those indirect claims should be made by taking facts / evidences in to consideration. COVID 19 has hit the world in a bad way. So business entities should be much more responsible during pandemic.
Prevention is Always Better than Cure
