Green Tea As A Wine Preservative for The First Time in The World !
Tea is the most consumed beverage after water & she has got a nearly 5000 years of history. As Stuff had reported, Founder of Loveblock South African Lady Erica Crawford, and was inspired by similar practices from her home country, where winemakers had replaced harmful sulphur (S), with rooibos herbal powder. By following the same concept, Loveblock has started using powdered green tea sourced from Italy as a preservative.
The first batch in 2018 didn’t quite go as planned. The wine was orange due to it “pinking”.
“In 2018, we ran out of this powder because we had no idea how much was going to be required, by the time it was bottled, it was orange because it was oxidized.” Erica said.
After further research and analysis, Green tea (Camellia sinensis), a registered wine additive, is added at each stage of the wine-making process which sees the wine exposed to oxygen, including harvest, crush, float, racking after ferment, filtration and bottling. The result was the Loveblock TEE Sauvignon Blanc 2019. It’s an organic, sulfate-free, vegan wine.
The name “TEE” translated to “tea” in Afrikaans and was a nod to both Erica’s heritage and the ingredients in the wine. Naturally available antioxidants in both Black and Green Tea acts as a preservative.
Editor’s Message
Here the intention is not to promote alcoholic beverages. This news has been brought just to update tea lovers on latest developments and usages of Tea. Tea is the most popular beverage after water & it is the only popular beverage which provides Stimulation (From Alkaloids) and Relaxation (L-theanine) at the same time. Naturally available anti-oxidants in tea minimizes the effect of Cardio vascular diseases, cancers, diabetes etc. So I always encourage drinking Tea. Cheers !
