Lipton and Red Label Initiates A Factory in Qatar
Tea is the most consumed beverage in the world after water. So this popular beverage is a part of many people’s daily routing. Tea mass market is dominated by large players like Unilever (Lipton / Red Label), Tata (Tetley), Twinings, Sara Lee etc. Most of these brands have already got plants at Dubai Multi Commodity Center (DMCC). Now, Unilever owns a factory in Qatar to pack it’s most popular tea brands namely Lipton and Red Label.
As “I Love Qatar” had reported, since more global companies are showing an interest to make their presence in the country because Qatar offers businesses an opportunity to invest in a dynamic and potentially rewarding environment. By making this statement true, global mass market tea brands Lipton and Brooke Bond Red Label inaugurated their journey in Qatar on 28th April at the Industrial Area in the presence of Minister of Commerce and Industry H E Ali bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari.
“The opening of the plant is one of the fruits of the State of Qatar’s ongoing efforts to achieve partnership with the private sector and support them by all means,” Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari said in a press statement, as reported by the Gulf Times.
“This is also to encourage them to contribute in supporting the national economy and achieve value addition, in addition to contributing to the achievement of self-sufficiency in many sectors, including the food products sector in line with National Vision 2030,” the Minister added.
It is learned that Lipton and Red Label brand built an “a kind of ecosystem over the years, which increases other businesses as well”. The factory will boost tea production from 1,200 to 2,000 tonnes in its first year of operation. Tea used by the plant come from four countries: Sri Lanka, Kenya, India, and Turkey. This is the first tea packaging plant of Lipton and Red Label brands in Qatar and it will stimulate and assist the nation’s efforts to achieve self-sufficiency.
Sir Thomas Lipton, the founder of Lipton brand first initiated tea manufacture at Dambetanna tea factory in Sri Lanka (Ceylon) in 1890. Lipton’s seat situated at the highest peak on this tea estate is one of the most attractive tourist destination in Sri Lanka.
